Obesity is becoming an epidemic across the United States affecting more than 93 million americans. The Walk from Obesity is a national event established in 2003 to raise awareness of the obesity epidemic and to support initiatives that focus on prevention, education, research, treatment and advocacy.

Proceeds from the Walk benefit the independent educational and research initiatives of the American Society of Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Foudnation and the Obesity Action Coalition. Walkers raise money by asking friends, family and co-workers to spnsor them. In addition to walker income, funds are raised through sponsorship, matching gifts, corporate contributions and other fundraising activities. The goal for the Wood County Hospital walk is to raise $7,500.

the Walk from Obesity will take place on the Wood County Hospital campus, 1037 Conneaut Ave. On-site registration begins at 7:30 a.m. in the Rehabilitation Services parking lot. The Walk will begin at 8:30 a.m. followed by free health screenings. Walkers can opt to walk either the one or three mile course. The registration fee to participate is $25 per person if you register online, or $35 to register on-site the day of the event. For more information visit www.walkfromobesity.com.
