Wood County Hospital Offers November Community Wellness Programs

Throughout the month of November, Wood County Hospital is sponsoring a series of wellness programs that will be of interest to the community. All programs are free and open to the public.

On Tuesday, November 6 from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m., Hares Akbary, M.D., interventional pain specialist will discuss various pain management techniques that can be used to control pain. The program will be held at the Bowling Green Community Center.

On Wednesday, November 7 from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m., Carlos Gomez, M.D., orthopedic surgeon will discuss the latest technology used for personalized knee replacement surgery.

The Positively Pink Women’s Health Series will offer a half day program, Ladies Day Out on Saturday, November 10 from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. The program is filled with vital health information of concern to women from the experts at Wood County Hospital and other medical organizations. The keynote speaker is vascular specialist Hammad Amer, M.D., who will speak about women and vascular disease such as stroke, peripheral arterial disease, varicose veins and heart disease.

On Monday, November 19 from 6:30 to 9:00 p.m. the hospital will present a new health and wellness series for men called, Barbershop Talks. Featured speakers Tim Butler, a licensed professinoal clinical counselor and Ken Power, M.D., a family medicine physician will present topics for men who want to take action to improve the quality of their lives. Door prizes, free samples and complimentary snacks will be available.

In his talk, Man to Woman: Communications Between the Genders, Butler will discuss communications styles men can use that will aid them in various walks of life, including work, friendship and family life.

Dr. Power will discuss important age specific health screenings and tests for men.
